CHESTER, located in an 1840’s
Greek Revival captain’s house in Provincetown’s East
End arts’ district, emphasizes fresh food, carefully prepared
and accompanied by an extensive selection of intriguing wines.
Garnering rave reviews since opening in 1998 and now in its ninth
season, chef-owned CHESTER has set new standards for gourmet dining
on Cape Cod. CHESTER received the highest food and service rating
for Cape Cod restaurants in the 2005/06 Zagat Survey and was named “Best
Restaurant on the Cape for General Excellence” by Boston
Magazine in 2004.
The seasonally-changing
American menu and weekly specials feature the finest in locally
and regionally procured products, including
organic produce, Chatham cod, Cape Cod scallops, Provincetown lobster,
Vermont quail and New England grass fed beef and farmstead cheeses.
CHESTER’s chefs combine great ingredients to produce interesting
flavors and textures, artfully presented. Desserts are made in-house
by pastry chef Jacqueline Hunter, and include an array of seasonal
ice creams and sorbets. CHESTER’s three-course prix fixe
menu is $59 per person and includes a choice of starter, main & after
dinner courses.

CHESTER’s
list of over 200 wines has garnered several Wine
Spectator Awards of Excellence since 1999. The list features
selections from the world’s major wine-producing regions and includes
many smaller producers not commonly seen elsewhere in Massachusetts.
The restaurant’s owners have spent time at many of the wineries,
and are generous in sharing the personality of the people and places
who make these wines. Extensive knowledge and experience goes into
amazing guests with intriguing pairings of food and wine. Most
bottles are priced between $35 and $65 and premium offerings are
served in Riedel crystal. A full selection of top-shelf liquors,
special cocktails and micro-brews round out the bar offerings. The candle-lit dining room, with banquette seating, offers an
elegantly relaxed experience not unlike a dinner party with special
friends. A lovely out door garden is available in season. Attentive
service is supplied by a knowledgeable, friendly staff. Exhibits
of original works by local artists enhance the ambiance.
John F. Guerra and Jay Coburn, original and current proprietors,
created CHESTER from their love of exquisite dining as well as
their love for Provincetown. Previously, John was in the U.S. Foreign
Service and Jay served as a lobbyist for community-based AIDS organizations.
CHESTER is named after their beloved Airedale Terrier. Reservations
recommended.
